Surge protect incoming and outgoing coax cable lines. Coax cable and data lines are relatively easy to run to video and network equipment. However, correctly surge protecting and grounding coax lines requires a systems integrator’s understanding of how to coordinate a surge protection system. When multiple breaker panels or structures are involved these systems become more complex to surge protect and ground. An unprotected or incorrectly grounded cable or data wire in one system can allow ground potentials to migrate to other cable and data systems producing large scale damage system wide during a lightning strike. Tens of thousands of dollars in damage can happen with one lightning strike and 90% of the time it is due to an unprotected or incorrectly grounded data wire.

TPD offers the highest quality cable feed protection available. Strategically surge protect cable feeds entering the home before being distributed throughout the house. By surge protecting and bonding incoming cable feeds with the electrical system ground, it will create an equal potential ground eliminating the potential for ground loops within the house. This will allow for a more reliable cable system with less chance of noise and interference contaminating video and audio signals. Unlike other technologies on the market, the TPD-Cable surge protectors performance will not degrade. You can count on the TPD-CABLE working now and 5,000 surges later.
How To
Protect Cable Entry Internet & TV
• Count the number of coaxial cable lines entering the structure.
• Count the number of coaxial cable lines leaving the structure and going to other parts of the property or campus.
• Place a TPD-CABLE on all entering and exiting coaxial cable lines to maintain proper grounding and equipment protection inside each building.
• Visually inspect cable-entry to see if the cable line is landed outside or inside the building and if it is bonded to the electrical system ground. Being connected to an earthing electrode that is not connected to the electrical system ground is a potential problem for electronics and should be documented and corrected. Often, we find that the contractor installed an earthing electrode (ground rod) and did not bond it to the electrical system ground.
Protect Network Wires Coming from Cable Modem
• Add additional protection in high-lightning locations or from cable companies by installing the TPD-CAT6 on the ethernet wire from the cable company modem. We have heard countless stories from dealers of cable companies eliminating cable surge protectors whether they were working or not.

The National Electric Code states, at minimum, cable and data lines must come into a building and be grounded to the main service power panel ground. By doing this you are giving your equipment a single ground reference point for cable, data, and power in the building. The potential for damage increases as these cable and data lines are distributed to multiple buildings. It is common to find unprotected or incorrectly grounded cable and data wires when multiple electronic devices fail during a lightning strike. All TPD recommendations are backed by the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers for protecting and grounding of sophisticated electronics.
